Foods You Never Should Eat To Get A Flat Stomach

foods

The foods you eat have far more effect on your shape than hours in the gym.

Nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert listed the main offenders that will stop you from ever achieving a flat stomach.

While some are obvious - others will surprise you.

Apples

A apple a day is said to keep the doctor away, but it will also give you a round stomach - thanks to it’s sugar and fibre content, causing bloating and gas.

Rhiannon says: 'Although apples are great additions to a healthy diet given their high fibre, vitamin C and antioxidant rich contents, they are known to cause bloating and other digestive issues for some people.”

Junk food

The most unsurprising of the list is junk food which, among it’s other unhealthy effects, causes gas, cramping and bloating.

It can also cause inflammation thanks to the chemicals.

Onions

Onions are another main contender in the bloating arena.

“Even though they’re usually eaten in small quantities, onions are one of the main dietary sources of fructans - soluble fibres that can cause bloating,” says Rhiannon.

“Those that are sensitive to fructans will have discomfort especially when consuming raw onions.”

Salt

Salt binds to the water in your body, meaning eating too much of it can cause you to retain water. Fizzy drinks

Unsurprisingly, drinks with gas in cause bloating.

The gas that you swallow becomes trapped indoor body.

Rhiannon says: “This will cause some discomfort to your digestive system, which can result in bloating and even cramping.

“Beer is one of the worst culprits of bloating as it's made from sources of fermentable carbohydrates like barley and wheat.”

Wheat

Another cause of bloating is wheat, especially for those who are gluten intolerant.

Dairy

The US Library of Medicine said over 65 per cent of the world’s population lacking the enzyme which digests lactose.

This means sugar from the stomach makes its way into the large intestine where it forms a gas, which can be painful.

Lentils

Rhiannon told the Mail Online: “Foods high in fibre do have a tendency to make people produce large amounts of gas.

“Lentils are one of most fibre rich foods available typically over 15g per cup, cooked.”
