Least powerful passports on EARTH

least powerful passports

The UK passport has been recently ranked as third position for the most powerful passports on earth.

Arton Capital's Passport Index released the results in the wake of Brexit.

The September data found Germany and Sweden have the joint first ranking for powerful passports.

Each of the country's citizens can enter 158 countries visa-free.

The UK closely follows them with a total of 157.

Despite the possibility Brits might soon have to pay a fee to enter the EU, it's unlikely to change the UK's high powerful passport ranking.

But some countries on the other end of the scale have far less ease of travel.

An astounding 134 countries separate the most and least powerful passports across the globe.

As it stands the least powerful passport is Afghanistan, with just 24 countries its citizens are able to access visa-free.

Some of those are pristine holiday spots, including St Vincent, Dominica and Micronesia.

But the extensive list of travel restrictions forces many Afghan nationals to stay put.

Pakistan is the second least powerful passport with 27 visa-free countries on its access list, followed by Iraq with 29.

Syria and Somalia both rounded out the bottom five with 31 countries each.

The reasons for the heavy restrictions are usually to do with relations between each country.

But there are exceptions to this rule, evident in disparities like North Korea being more powerful than Sri Lanka or Nepal in terms of passports.

North Korea ranked 19th least powerful with 41 countries, tying with Kosovo (41) and trumping Bangladesh (37).
