2016 is just few days away to go. If you are planning for a holiday in 2017 lets find out when it will be an ideal time to book your holiday flights.

April, August, September and August are when the biggest discounts are found on flights, according to research by travel agent Opodo.co.uk.

Trips to New York, Dubai, Hong Kong or any other long-distance destinations for the Summer are typically six per cent cheaper in April than the rest of the year.

Flights to Europe for the summer were also found to be cheapest in April, with an average saving of five per cent compared to other months.

Booking on a weekend also tends to net travellers bigger savings than during the week.

Buying flights on a Saturday or Sunday is typically three per cent cheaper for short and long-haul travel, while savings of six and seven per cent can be saved respectively on domestic flights.

Travellers planning trips for 2018 are advised to wait until September when a savings of up to 14 per cent can be made on flights to Europe for the following summer.

It's also when the best savings for long-haul are biggest, with prices up to eight per cent lower.

October and September are again the cheapest months to fly within the UK, with August rounding out the list.

Lukas Balter, destination expert at Opodo, said: “When the first frosts start appearing on the ground and with temperatures currently at rock bottom it’s only natural people start thinking about beaches, holidays and above all the warm embrace of the Sun.

"But you shouldn’t just book the first flights you see.

"With a little planning you can get a much better deal than at other times of year and when you visit Opodo.co.uk you can search for combination flights with different airlines, helping you find the best price possible.”
