Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date Confirmed As First Photo Shows The Stunning New Design

Samsung Galaxy S8

Samsung recently confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S8 release date wouldn’t be held at MWC 2017 as originally expected, but those delays look set to be short lived.

Now, new reports have surfaced suggesting that the eagerly awaited handset will be formally unveiled just one month after the Barcelona-based conference.

The exact date of the Samsung Galaxy S8 launch to add to your diary? Well, according to latest reports, you’re going to want to keep March 29 free.

Despite past Samsung Galaxy S handsets having all been unveiled during, or in the weeks surrounding Mobile World Congress, the S8 is being pushed back due to the battery issues that plagued last year’s Galaxy Note 7 release.

Now, serial tipster Evan Blass has not only claimed the phone will launch on March 29, he’s shown off the first photo of the eagerly awaited handset too.

Taking to Twitter to proclaim the high-profile leak, Blass stated simply: “This is the Samsung Galaxy S8, launching March 29.”

The picture shows a sleek, metal-framed, glass-backed handset that has done away with the phone’s traditional physical home button.

In its place, the Galaxy S8 looks set to add a stunning edge-to-edge display that’ll give the phone a luxurious, futuristic look and feel.

This display will be curved on all models too, with Samsung to ditch the traditional flat display and focus solely on the ‘Edge’ panels that have really grabbed consumers’ attentions in recent years.

Despite only being offer in curved form, the S8 will reportedly still drop in two sizes with 5.8-inch and massive 6.2-inch devices to be made available.

Thanks to the missing home button, however, these oversized screens will be able to be squeezed into phones no bigger than the existing Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

With no home button, the leaks show the phone’s fingerprint scanner has been moved to the rear of the device next to a camera that now sits flush with the phone’s body.

This is contrary to claims the phone would hide the biometric sensor directly under the screen itself.

Another design element teased by Blass’s leaked image is the phone’s sound options.

As well as featuring a down-firing speaker, the S8 won’t copy the iPhone 7 and ditch the traditional headphone jack, with the phone clearly seen sporting a 3.5mm headphone port on its base.

The phone will also move to adopt a USB Type-C connection allowing for faster charging and quicker file transfers.

Powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor, the S8 will reportedly be the first phone to pack a laptop-toppling 8GB of RAM.

Not the first time the March 29 release date has been banded around in relation to the Galaxy S8, it’s believed the phone will be formally showcased at a dedicated press launch in New York City.

Once unveiled, it’s been suggested the phone will hit retailers’ shelves in early to mid-April.

Don’t expect it to come cheap though. Last year’s Galaxy S7 Edge cost £639 at launch and with the S8 adding a host of new features, we’d expect it to hit your wallet for an even more sizeable sum.
