Singer Janet Jackson Welcomes Her First Child At Aged 50

Janet Jackson and her husband Wissam Al Mana have become parents for the first time.

The singer gave birth to a healthy baby boy on January 3, her rep confirmed in a statement to People magazine.

"Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana are thrilled to welcome their new son Eissa Al Mana into the world," the rep said.

"Janet had a stress-free healthy delivery and is resting comfortably."

Jackson, who married Qatari business man Al Mana in 2012, sparked speculation she would be becoming a mother when she postponed Unbreakable World Tour indefinitely last year.

The 50-year-old artist revealed her decision in a video posted to Twitter in early April, saying she and Al Mana were "planning [their] family".

"We're in the second leg of the tour, and there actually has been a sudden change," she said in the clip.

"I thought it was important that you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning our family so I'm going to have to delay the tour."

She added that she had to "rest up - doctor's orders" but did not reveal at the time whether she was pregnant or planning to adopt a child.

The younger sister of the late Michael Jackson remained fairly tight-lipped throughout her progressing pregnancy.

Confirming the news in a baby bump photoshoot with People magazine last October, Jackson said she was thrilled about the impending arrival of her little bundle of joy saying, "We thank God for our blessing."

After taking time out of the spotlight, the seven-time Grammy Award winner took to Twitter last month to thank fans for "understanding" her decision.

"Hey you guys... It's been awhile... but I'm still listening," she wrote. "I feel your love and prayers... Thank you... and I'm doing well."

After the tour cancellation, older brother (and father of nine) Jermaine Jackson said he would be happy to help out when the bub did arrive.

"She'll be a great mother because she is very tough, very strict," Jermaine, 61, said in May.

"But I tell her, 'If you need any parenting skills or baby skills, let me know because I'm the best diaper changer there is on this planet, still to this day.'"
