Woman with Down’s Syndrome Set To Become France’s Newest Weather Presenter

France

Mélanie Ségard, 21, has always wanted to be a weather girl but always thought it wouldn’t be possible because of her disability.

Yet following some help from French charity Unapei, she has since been flooded with offers from national TV channels France 2 and BFMTV.

The charity for people with learning disabilities in France helped Melanie set up a Facebook campaign called Mélanie peut le faire (Mélanie can do it).

Mélanie said: ‘I am different, but I would like to show everyone that I can do plenty of things. I want to prove it by appearing on TV’.

On her page, Mélanie challenged French media to offer her the chance to present the weather forecast if her page reached 100,000 likes.

In just a matter of days, her page surpassed its goal and has had more than 185,000 likes.

And in the past week, she has already made appearances on French TV and radio to discuss her campaign.

A spokesperson for Unapei said Mélanie campaign has been vital for raising the profile of people with Down’s Syndrome.

They told The Telegraph: ‘Today, people with a disability are invisible. The 100,000 likes are a sign of strong support – we are taken aback at how quickly the page became a success.’

Mélanie will present the weather for the first time on March 27.
