The boss of a Formula One team has been arrested in London.

Business tycoon Vijay Mallya, who is team chief of F1 racing team Sahara Force India, was detained by Metropolitan Police officers on behalf of Indian authorities on Tuesday.

The 61-year-old has been arrested “in relation to accusations of fraud”, Scotland Yard said.

He handed himself in at a central London police station and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ court later on Tuesday as part of extradition proceedings.

The arrest comes after Indian authorities applied for Mallya to be extradited from the UK.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Officers from the Metropolitan Police's Extradition Unit have arrested a man on an extraction warrant.
