Early signs of Alzheimer's you should know

Alzheimer's

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia.

Here are some of the common signs which is an earliest stages of Alzheimer's disease

1. Memory Loss

The most common symptom of Alzheimer's is memory problems which get in the way of everyday life.

Be aware if stuff you’ve recently learned is a bit fuzzy, important dates slip your mind or you need information to be repeated.

2. Confusion or disorientation

If you feel like times and places are becoming confusing, this is an early warning sign of Alzheimer’s.

Unfamiliar situations may cause distress, or you might find yourself getting lost then forgetting where you are and how you got there.

3. Changes in personality and behaviour

Mood swings, depression, confidence issues and apathy are subtle hints to watch out for.

4. Language problems

People with Alzheimer's may find it hard to join in or follow conversations.

They sometimes lose track of their thread half-way through chatting or struggle finding the right word for things.

5. Vision problems

On top of trouble speaking, those suffering from early symptoms of the disease may also find it hard to read, judge speed and distance or recognise colours and objects.

If you notice any of the signs it’s important to book an appointment with your doctor.

Currently there’s no cure for Alzheimer's disease because the death of brain cells during the development of dementia cannot be halted or reversed.

But early detection can give you a chance to explore treatments and help you stay independent for longer.

Meanwhile there are also some steps you can take to slash your risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

1. Stop smoking

2. Cut down on alcohol

3. Get active for 30 minutes five times a week

4. Eat a healthy, balanced diet

5. Stay socially active
