Jorge Mendes Flies Into Manchester To Complete £38m Deal For The Defender

Jorge Mendes

Portuguese outlet O Jogo claim the Red Devils will complete a deal for the 22-year-old worth £38m.

Lindelof - a central defender - would be Jose Mourinho’s first January signing as he looks to bolster his squad further.

With Eric Bailly heading off to the Africa Cup of Nations and Chris Smalling struggling for fitness the Special One is keen to bring in reinforcements.

Mendes - the agent of Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo - will help get the deal over the line when talks are held with United chiefs.

The fee is said to be the main sticking point between the two parties with Vieira pushing for more than the proposed £38m.

Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have performed admirably in the absence of Smalling and Bailly but Mourinho is keen to add depth to his backline.

United currently sit sixth in the Premier League after three straight wins.

They are just three points behind Tottenham and trail Arsenal by four as they look to force their way into the Champions League qualifying places.

The signing of Lindelof would provide a big boost to the Red Devils as they move into the second half of the season.
