It is the third day of Christmas(27th Dec), when My True Love sent to me three French hens, so here are some facts about chickens.

1. There are an estimated 25 billion chickens in the world which is 3.5 for every human and is thought to be more than any other bird species.

7. The Chicken Dance (also known as the Birdie Song) was composed by accordionist Werner Thomas of Davos, Switzerland around 1960.

8. It was number 2 in the UK charts in 1981 and in 2000 was voted “most annoying song of all time”.

9. Research has shown that a chicken can learn to recognise the faces of over 100 individuals.

10. The correct word for a fear of chickens is “alektorophobia”.
