This Could Be End Of The Torrents Era

A new Windows 10 app dubbed Free Netflix Downloader does what it says on the tin.

According to blog TorrentFreak, the new software is the first designated Windows app capable of downloading television episodes from Netflix in high definition video quality.

The new app comes weeks after Netflix announced it would allow users to download some of the videos available in its online catalogue offline viewing on smartphones and tablets.

However the Free Netflix Downloader functionality built into DVDVideoSoft brings the same features to the desktop, TorrentFreak reports.

After logging into your Netflix account, customers simply drop the URL of the TV episode or movie they want to be able to watch on a long-haul flight, or somewhere else without an active internet connection into the app.

Free Netflix Downloader downloads the video in a few minutes – the new tool also offers the option to convert the output video file into AVI, MP3, or a lightweight version specifically optimised for iPhone and iPad.

“[It is intended for] users with slow Internet connections, for those who like to store everything on their computer, for those who don’t have smart TVs; it’s also great for downloading a whole series season at a time,” the creator behind the app told TorrentFreak.

The new app supports simultaneous downloads.

However, there is concern that the new app might violate the video on-demand firm's Terms of Service, which forbids users to archive or download content from the website without permission.

For now, the developers behind the software do not seem overly concerned about any pushback from Netflix.

But they confessed it could become a problem, "if the program becomes very popular."
